in memory of Head Groundskeeper
Ray Grew up in North Branch, Minnesota, in the 1920's and 30's. In high school he was a star athlete, being offered scholarships in both football and track at North Dakota State. He was planning on chasing quarterbacks in opposing backfields in college, but instead was called to serve our nation by chasing German submarines in the North Atlantic during World War II. Unfortunately, due to these circumstances, Ray was not able to take advantage of his athletic scholarship offers.
Ray has been a fixture of the Mustang football program for more than 20 years. His care for the Mounds View fields is exceeded only by his care for the Mustang players and coaches. Ray says, "Fall is my favorite time of the year.. I look forward to being with the guys during these three months of football." Ray keeps a close eye on not only the high school football teams, but the Mounds View middle school teams as well. He is content that the Mustang pipeline of future players is filled for years to come.
Ray passed away peacfully in his sleep in 2008 at the age of 84 years. He will be missed by all of his Mustang family.
