Mounds View Football
Mission Statement

The Mounds View Football Program is operated to enhance the students' overall development in the Mounds View High School community. The program is committed to the educational, cultural, physical and social development of the student/athlete in excelling at football. The program encourages self disciple, group loyalty, good sportsmanship and personal integrity; an appreciation for the benefits of hard work, motivation and perseverance; and a feeling of pride in accomplishment. It is the programs belief that these qualities lead to a accomplishments in academics and to the attainment of skills necessary for continued learning throughout life.

Offensive Philosophy

The Mounds View offense is a multi dimensional attack. It is adapted to the strengths of its individual players. There are four standard series of plays that are taught. Each series includes at least one inside run, perimeter run, miss-direction run and play action pass. Also incorporated are a 3 step, 5 step and sprint out passing series. Offensive line play is the greatest determining factor in our offense. We need young men that know and can execute their assignments with aggressiveness. We have at least one offensive lineman pulling or trapping on nearly every play. He must be smart, quick footed, strong and aggressive.

Defensive Philosophy

The Mounds View defense is a react, attack and pursue the ball unit. Whether we are in a four, five or six man front our defensive linemen have to engage blockers, react to the blocking scheme, draw double teams, separate, disengage and persue to the ball. The inside linebackers have it easy if the defensive linemen do the their jobs, react to their key and tackle the ball carrier.
Special Teams Philosophy

Mounds View special teams are aggressive and fundamentally sound. We believe that every year we will win at least one game, and hopefully more, with aggressive special teams play. We work hard to ensure that by being fundamentally sound in all our units that special teams is never the reason for a Mustang loss. At Mounds View we view special teams as a place where a young man who has paid his dues in the weight room and on the practice field but is not playing with the first group on offensive or defensive can find an opportunity to contribute as a starter on Friday night.
